In casino craps, how to play is determined by a fairly specific set of rules which are not as easy as playing online video poker games. There are basically four people actively involved in the running of a casino craps game. The most important of these people is the boxman. The boxman supervises everything that goes on within the game. He has two dealers on either side of him that are in charge of paying all the payouts and claiming all the losers' chips. The final person involved is the stickman. It is the stickman's job to control the action of the dice and the pace of the game.

To start the casino craps game, the stickman pushes several sets of dice to the shooter (the shooter is what the player “shooting” the dice is called). The shooter picks a set of dice from those offered. The next step is for the casino craps shooter to roll them across the table so that they hit the opposite wall. The ideal roll is a seven or an 11. These are called “naturals” and the shooter who rolls one of them wins the equivalent amount of chips he bet on the pass line. What the shooter wants to avoid is rolling a 2, 3, or a 12 on his first throw. This is called craps. How to play that is never an issue because you automatically lose and forfeit your Pass Line bet to the dealer. However, the shooter does not have to give up the dice, he can continue rolling until he “sevens out”.
Should the shooter's first roll be a 4,5,6,8,9 or 10, that number is established as your “box point”. From there, the casino craps strategy changes somewhat. At this point, the shooter does not want to roll a seven before hitting the “box point” again. A seven at this point would equal a loss.
